The spring meeting of the Great Plains Chapter of the Doane Family Association of America, Inc. was held Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Doane College library in Crete, Nebraska. The meeting will begin with lunch at noon and will dismiss by 4 pm. "We are sad to note the death of Ted Doane of Waverly, Nebraska, first vice president of the Doane Family Association," said Jody Kerssenbrock. "We are fortunate to have had Ted get us started on becoming a regional chapter, and we need to complete the process of becoming certified by the Doane Family Association. This is on the agenda for the April 26th meeting in Crete."
Many Doanes and Doans and descendants have become prominent in the arts, and as the college library Doane archives include many books by these Cousins, attendees will peruse several at the April meeting. One such author, Eleanor Doan, is the daughter of Fred Doane, born April 3, 1890, in Perry, Kansas. Another author, Deborah Doane Dempsey, is a Columbia River pilot.
We welcome anyone with surnames Doane, Doan, Done, Donne, or variations, their spouses and descendants.

On September 26th, 2012 a tree planting ceremony was held at Doan's Cemetery on 2nd
concession in honour of the Queen's Jubilee. The Ontario Horticultural Society
has awarded one tree to each of its nine districts. The Doan group in Port
Colborne was one of the lucky receivers. We thought that since it had to
celebrate the monarchy it would be most appropriate to plant the tree in the
United Empire Loyalist cemetery here in Port Colborne. If you were at the International Reunion in
Plymouth, Massachusetts you will remember the information about Jerry Fisher and
his work in getting the cemetery recognized as a United Empire Loyalist Cemetery
and that ultimately renamed as the Doan's Cemetery.
Pictures of the ceremony have been sent to the Queen for the official Jubilee recordbook.
